HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

ws_Happy_Holidays_Sign_2560x1440As the year draws to a close, the world is focused on the holidays. To many it is all about promotions, “things” and sales that result in an increase in nickels and numbers. Some emphasize Christ and His birth (though the Bible is silent on the date of his birth). Let’s focus our attention on some…

SPECIAL HOLIDAY TIMES

How Wonderful For Family To Enjoy Special Gatherings – How wonderful to put aside the cares of the world, the urgency of our daily commitments, the pressures of our jobs, aches and pains of our body, and just ENJOY being together with family. The memories that are made on such occasions will likely last for decades. It is very possible that the ones that are together may NEVER be together again (death comes so swiftly and unexpectedly). Take the time and “go home for the holidays” and enjoy these special gatherings.

Special Opportunities To Give To Those We Love – Gift giving is a privilege and joy. Small children love to receive and open presents. Parents and grandparents love to give to those whom they love beyond words. A gift is a way of saying “I love you.” To give something especially needed by the recipient may provide greater happiness for the giver than the receiver.

Treasure Each Moment Of Each Day – Life is so brief (James 4:14). Life is fragile (Heb. 9:27). May we ever be aware of the passing of time and “live each day as if it were your last.” How would you approach these holiday times if you knew it would be the last ones you would spend on this earth?

What Really Matters? – Things are not the most important matter in our life! Sports must not be at the top of our priority list! Political races will come and go (though at times with great consequences). Weather is fickle. Changes will occur and greatly influence our daily lives. But the one thing that is MOST IMPORTANT is our relationship with Jesus Christ! If we are not a disciple of the Saviour, we are foolishly neglecting what really matters! If we are not faithfully living for and serving the Master – we are failing to prepare for eternity!

A Final Thought. Consider – if a doctor told you that you had a week to live – what would you do? What would be the priority in your life with a mere 168 hours to live? In reality – we do not know when death will come. But the fact is – it could be today, tomorrow, next week. As Amos urged (hundreds of years ago) in Amos 4:12, “Prepare to meet thy God!”
