It Takes Only A Brief Time!

1438627895847Time passes so quickly. James speaks of life as a “vapor” (James 4:14). With each passing day, it seems our list of things to do grows, and some days we are merely running from fire to fire – the victim of the “tyranny of the urgent.” In spite of these facts, let us pause and consider…

It Takes ONLY A Brief Time

To Lift The Spirits Of Special Elderly Ones. Dear ones who have served their Master for years may find themselves alone, lonely and even depressed. To visit and listen to them talk for a while will express respect for who they are and what they have done. It will be worth the brief time required!

To Write A Note Of Encouragement To One Of God’s Servants. Maybe it is a custodian, song leader, one who prepares the communion, or others who faithfully serve – for them to receive a note may be worth more than silver or gold to that person. It will be worth the brief time required!

To Commend A Young Person For A Job Well Done. Young ones are so often criticized. Be a “good finder” and express your thoughts of commendation to those who are doing well in their life as a Christian. I can still recall words express by dear ones when I was a teenager though it has been fifty years ago. It will be worth the brief time required!

To Say “I Love You” To Your Spouse. Never, never take for granted the love of your mate. Lovingly, kindly, sincerely, tell the love of your life “I love you!” A suggestion: keep doing what it took to win her (or him) well into the holy state of matrimony. It will be worth the brief time required!

To Express Appreciation To A Bible Class Teacher. Serving as a teacher of a Bible class is (at times) a thankless job. To be an effective and successful teacher requires significant time and preparation. For others to notice and express appreciation is of great value. It will be worth the brief time required!

To Comfort Those Who Are Grieving. The loss of a spouse, child, friend, neighbor, co-laborer, etc. brings hurt and sorrow. While our words (spoken or written) will not remove the hurt – the one receiving the comforting words will be lifted and assisted in their recovery to just know that others care and are praying for them. It will be worth the brief time required!

To Give A Friend (Or Stranger) A Tract To Point The Way To Heaven. You may be the only Bible that some will ever read. Never underestimate your influence and impact on the lives of those around you. To hand a teaching tract on why they need to be a member of the Lord’s church, why the things of this life is not what matters, and to please God is THE most important of ALL – a soul may forever enjoy heaven because of your love and the brief time it took to show the love of God. It will be worth the brief time required!

A Final Thought. Though it only takes a brief time – often we fail to interrupt what we are doing to reach out and encourage, strengthen, help, and say things that would “make the day” of another. Resolve to take the few moments to let others know how much you appreciate them, love them, esteem them, and value their service for the Master. It will be worth the brief time required!
