Life is full of happiness and tears. Of the many joys in life, a few would include: your wedding day, the birth of a child, visiting a special place, family gatherings, etc. Sadness comes when death takes a loved one, the pain of disease, betrayal by a friend, etc. The apostle Paul encouraged God’s faithful to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep (Rom. 12:10). Consider with me briefly a few areas of JOY as we live for Jesus Christ, our Lord.
The JOY Of Christianity
The JOY Of Christian Fellowship. Individually we are a member in the family of God (1 Cor. 12:18ff). We are “of like precious faith” with fellow Christians (2 Peter 1:1). We are blessed to have others who love the same truth, prefer others before themselves, worship the same God and are determined to reach the same eternal home. As the beautiful hymn (“Family Of God”) suggests, sometimes we laugh together, sometimes we cry.
The JOY Of Worshiping Our Father. Regularly we are blessed to come together for the intent of offering praise and adoration to Almighty God. Our spirits are lifted high, refreshed and renewed. How exciting to come into the presence of the Creator of all things.
The JOY Of Serving One Another. Because we are family, we love and care for one another. As those of the first century church, we are willing to have things common and to meet the needs of our Christian family. Eagerly we reach out and assist others in their times of difficulty and trial. We are richly blessed to have dear ones with whom we walk here day by day – toward our eternal home.
The JOY Of Shining A Light To The World Of Darkness. It is a challenging responsibility, but likewise a joyful privilege, to be a beacon light of hope and good news to a lost and dying world. We offer a way of salvation to ones consumed in sin and ungodliness.
The JOY Of Anticipating A Home In Heaven. Jehovah God has promised to the faithful servant an eternal home in paradise. Consider dear friend that the all-powerful, all-knowing, everywhere-present God has reached down to lowly and sinful ME and has made it possible for ME to be in heaven forever with Him.
It is impossible for the human mind to grasp the beauty and grandeur of paradise! Our mind cannot comprehend a place with no pain, sorrow or death (Rev. 21:4). Yet, that is precisely the description found in God’s Holy Word.
A Final Thought. Of all the JOYS of this life – nothing compares to heaven. May we resolve to allow nothing to keep us from receiving the eternal crown one day.
